Knock Knock! Who’s there? Satan.

Seeking Justice. Loving Mercy Walking humbly with my God. Micah 6:8

Knock Knock! Who’s there? Satan.

Satan who?  I know his tantalizing voice.  Do you?

You are not good enough.

You are too fat to be loved or wanted

This is all your fault.

You are a horrible mother.

You are stupid.

sometimes with a twist of truth…

No one wants to be your friend your too forward.

You are an addict; God can’t use you.

You look at porn, if they find out, they will destroy you.

Look at your past, you can’t do it.

you will never amount to anything.

Or with a question…

Look at all that has happened to you, why didn’t he save you?

How can God you use, you are a mess?

You think God will really come for you?

Look at your family, you think God cares?

He is relentless.  He is a liar.  He knows how to pierce your heart to destroy you. Destruction is his goal.  His desire is to steal your peace, kill your relationship with Jesus and others, destroy your life and leave you hopeless.  John 10:10 “The thief comes to steal and kill and destroy…”

If we know this, then why do we entertain the first knock?  He is slick. He waits until we are exhausted, tired, hungry, alone and then targets.  He lets loose.

I like the shirt that says, “Not today Satan.”  We should respond that way EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.  But that’s not what we do, is it?  We give the enemy a foothold with our thoughts far too often.  In Ephesians 4:27 scripture says not to!  “do not give the devil an opportunity.”

We can prepare ourselves for the brutal battle and we can also STOP entertaining his ridiculousness.  God’s Word is filled with TRUTH.  God is trustworthy, kind, gentle and honest.  A friend walked me through a three-step process, she says, changed her life.  I want to share it with you, the 3R’s.

When you hear the lie, REJECT it.

“No, satan, that is not true, and I will not give you one ounce of space in my thoughts today.”

“No, satan, you are a liar and a thief, that is truth.”

REPENT.  I was a bit caught off guard with this step, but she is correct.  When we believe his lies or give him a foothold with our thoughts, we are sinning against God.  We are “taking a side,” the wrong side!

“God, please forgive me for believing this lie and claiming it as truth.”

“God, I’m sorry I looked at porn, please forgive me.  I want to live for you.”

REPLACE.  This step is important.  If we have been believing the lie for so long, new beliefs and habits will take effort.  Replacing the lie with truth requires us to open our Bibles and find the gems of God’s love.  We may have to repeat scripture often as we replace the lie.  Ask God to personally show you His love for you in scripture.  Just as you hear satan’s lies, you can hear God speak.  The problem is, we have been entertaining the wrong voice.  Listen for the Voice of Truth!

“I love you dear child, you have confessed your sin to me, I have forgiven you.” (paraphrased 1 John 1:9)

“I have set you free from bondage…your past, present and future, you are free in me.” (John 8:32)

“I love you with an everlasting love.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

Allow God to give you a truth for today.  Specific for your struggle.  He always says, come.  He wants to meet you where you are at and fill your heart with this loving kindness.  His voice is tender, not condemning.  Friends, answer the door when the Lord is knocking…

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” -Revelation 3:20
